For those of you that actually believe that Wingbowl is some type of Superbowl of competitive
eating that has attracted major media coverage with CNN & ESPN, well think again. Only two
sources have tried to turn this into something special. Shitfeats & Philly.com. Shitfeats known as
eatfeats.com is basically a source of  googled press releases accompanied by a bunch of asinine
remarks from anonymous idiots that live shallow introverted lives. But lets give credit where
credit is due. Takeru Kobayashi is the greatest living eater that ever graced the competitive
eating table. If he went up against Joey Chestnut in hotdogs one more time , he would probably
teach him a lesson he would never forget. You watch his technique and its just amazing how he
makes decent eaters look paltry compared to him. Snapping two dogs at a time with one hand
while soaking and splitting two buns in water with the other . He has the  four  major ingredients
that make him the champ he is today. Capacity, Speed  Technique & Rhythm.  Dont mess with
greatness. He made 30grand in less than one hour. $20k in first place prize money along with a
$10k appearance fee. Not bad for  a hard earned meal. Only in America  they will pay you to eat. If
competitive eating existed in the late 70;'s or 80's i wouldn't be struggling with anonymity in the
lower echelon of the IFOCE rankings. Three of the five eaters that made it to the final round
value the praise and admiration of their fellow peers more than the publicity and the prize money
surrounding the event. I wont mention their names because i think you know who they are. How
do i know? Well i used to be on good terms with two of those names and i know that friendship
and acceptance mean more to them than anything in the world. Even though i never had the
pleasure of actually sitting down with Kobayashi , i got to know more about him through social
networking and realize that he too relishes  the appreciation of his achievements from his fellow
peers. Knowing that your friends are there to cheer you on through thick and thin is the greatest
benefit you can derive from this sport.  Winning Wingbowl was payback for Nathans but the
victory would have been even sweeter if he was victorious over Chestnut instead of Squibb. Will
Kobi receive another 15 grand to eat hotdogs on a 15000 square ft rooftop next to a live telecast
of the Nathans finals in Coney Island? I say yes. Even though he is not competing side by side
with Chestnut, they will pay him the gelt as long as he tops Chestnuts number. Life is good isnt
it? From a personal standpoint it really saddens me to think that  competitive eating as we know
it today, never existed in the 1980's.  For some that are past their prime it would have meant a
goldmine .  I myself  was cleaning out refrigerators and  eating everything and anything i could
get my hands on without getting full. The famous story i share with others back on a hot summer
day in 1984. At the time i feasted on a 4lb  bowl of pasta and tomato sauce with a loaf of bread  at
a local pizza place on Flatlands ave in Brooklyn. The owner asked the waiter "Did he order a
beverage"? The waiter replied "Not even water"  What does that tell you about my appetite? The
Kobyashi's,  The Chestnuts and the Stonie's of this era are reaping the rewards of being young
and talented.  They eat big and they get paid the big bucks to do just that. Whether  Kobayashi
competes against himself or with competition , he will always make money because he is a
winner and if you keep on winning the cash flow will always be there  until you lose.
